In this match, the hometeam Brighton and Hove Albion (Brighton) has nearly a strongest squad while the opposing team- Arsenal does not have the service of Mesut Ozil due to his injury, but Mikel Arteta coach has Alexandre Lacazette and Nicholas Pepe as the attackers in return.
During the early tenth-minute, Arsenal had three opportunities, especially the shot on the crossbar of Black.
Minutes later, Brighton started to slow down and tried to possess the ball better, however there was no real dangerous occasion for them.
In the 36th minute, Bernd Leno- the goalkeeper was seriously injured. Replays showed Leno had appeared to see his knee buckle after being pushed by Maupay as the two competed for an aerial ball before half-time, and the German ‘keeper had aimed some choice words at the Brighton forward as he was stretchered from the pitch with his right leg in a brace.
It was another frustrating moment for Mikel Arteta, just days after losing Pablo Mari and Granit Xhaka, in a game where he was looking for a response from his side.
His replacement, Emi Martinez, was immediately called into action to make a fine low save to hold Aaron Mooy’s fierce drive, before Aubameyang was denied in the area by a fine tackle by Adam Webster after combining nicely with Lacazette.
At the end of the first-half, Arsenal did a pretty good co-ordination. Lacazette skillfully passed the ball to Aubameyang, however Webster broke in time to prevent Aubameyang from encountering the goalkeeper of the home team.
From the start of the second-half, two teams used a tit for tat strategy but lacked the sufficient spark to make the breakthrough until Pepe turned on the style with the sort of magic he became known for before his move from Lille last summer, turning inside off the right and bending a shot over Ryan for the opener.
But seven minutes later, Brighton hit back and had an equalizer. From a messy ball of a corner kick, Lewis Dunk fastly scored after a quickly taken short corner, he forced the ball over the line from close range.
Only at last fifteen minutes, Arsenal directly attacked the home team for a goalward but almost opportunities were unfortunately lost one by one after the definite shots of Aubameyang and Kolasinac. And until the last minute of the extra time, the two attackers of Brighton- Maupay and March were a superbly combination, scored the second goal for the hometeam. This combination reminded of the pair of strikers Andy Cole & Dwight Yorke in the past 90s. Falmer Stadium seems to burst in happiness.
Now Brighton has 32 points, after 30 rounds, ranks 15th , equal to the point with Watford but marginally better in goal difference. Arsenal has 40 points and they will find more difficulties in the race to get attendance to UFFA Champion League next year.
